电选是据矿物之间电性的差异利用电选机分离矿物的选矿方法。矿物电性可用介电常数、电阻、比导电度和整流性来描述。一般地讲，凡介电常数较小、电阻较大、比导电度高的矿物都是不易导电的，在电选中常作为非导体矿物产出;与此相反，凡介电常数较大、电阻较小、比导电度低的矿物往往容易导电，在电选中常作为导体矿物产出。
Electrostatic separation is a method of separate mineral by using electrical separator which is based on the electrical difference between minerals.
Generally speaking, the mineral which is small dielectric constant , high resistance, high electric conductivity and not easily conductive selected to output as non-conductive mineral . In contrast , the mineral which is large dielectric constant ,low resistance, low electric conductivity and easily conductive selected to output as conductive mineral. 

    电选机提供适当的电场，加上重力场和离心力场。这样，在电选过程中，电场作用力、重力、离心力以及摩擦力等共同作用在矿粒上，这些力的合力决定矿粒的去向。
Electric separator provide the appropriate field. In the process of electric separation, electric field force, gravity, centrifugal force and the friction force together on the ore grain, these forces decide the direction of ore grain.

要实现电选分离必须满足以下条件：
   非导体矿粒所受的电场作用力>矿粒所受重力、离心力等力的合力>导体矿粒所受的电场作用力。矿粒所受电场力的大小跟矿粒携带的电量有关。导体矿粒由于其导电性好，在与电极接触过程中易放电，即使其起始获得再多的电荷，最终也只能剩下少量电荷，它所受的电场力是很小的，上面不等式的右边条件是容易满足的。为满足不等式的左边的条件，就必须提高非导体矿粒所受的电场作用力。静电场和电晕电场的复合电场可使非导体矿粒带更多的电量。同时，为提高电场强度，采用高电压，这样非导体矿粒受到很大的电场作用力，能够克服重力、离心力等竞争力，实现电选分离。
